One of the charms of living on Inis Meáin

Once in a while it happens….Completely unexpected!?  Well… this morning already there was a tiny thought of uncertainty  in the deepest of my mind about it, but I waved it away. First of all: several hours had  still to be passed by and besides  that, it concerned quite  a different area…

Day passed by and the situation had not changed, although…a lovely sunshine had come out. It was probably she that let me forget all about my slumbering uncertainty of the early morning.  Then the moment  came, some hours later, that I arrived at the pier in Ros a’ Mhíl. I saw several boats moored but no boat to be seen from Inis Meáin! “Well, I thought, there is still plenty of time left before leaving  for the island again”. However… time passed by and still no ferry…

Suddenly there was a boat coming and it was indeed my ferry! In a split second everything fell in its’ place  I thought and I got on with making further preparations. The gate was opened and disembarkment surrounded by all the hassle of it, took place. Then the gate was closed again…?! Due to heavy storm  the boat was not able to moor on the pier of Inis Meáin.

As far as we are convinced of having our daily life fully under control, the above situation confirms once more the opposite…

Slán go fóill,

Elisabeth from Inis Meáin
