Aran Ferries and Flights.
You can travel to the Aran Islands by passenger ferry from Doolin in Co.Clare and Rossaveal in Co. Galway or by Air from Connemara. You can find information on both Aran Ferries and Aer Arann Islands here.
It is possible to travel to Inishmore (Inis Mór), Inisheer (Inis Oírr), or Inishmaan (Inis Meáin) by Passenger Ferries from Doolin in Co. Clare (Seasonal) or Rossaveal in Co. Galway (All Year). Sailings from Doolin can be influenced by tides. Aran Island ferries from Rossaveal are not subject to tidal issues.
There are no direct ferries from Galway city at this time.
Car Ferries are not available to the Aran Islands.
Travel time to Inis Mor from Rossaveal is 40 minutes and from Doolin is about 90 minutes.
Doolin to Inis Oirr (Inisheer) is only about 30 minutes.
Car parking is available at Rossaveal (€5 per day) and Doolin (Free).
A shuttle bus to and from Rossaveal is available from Galway city at €7 return.
Ferries From Doolin, Co.Clare
Aran Islands Ferry services from Doolin in County Clare operate from mid March to the end of October. Due to tides there are about 2 hours daily when the pier cannot be used. So do check departure times with the companies as the information on their websites is not always accurate and is subject to change. Currachs are sometimes used to transport passengers to the ferry when the tide is low. This problem should be eliminated soon as a new pier is planned.
*Do not buy tickets in any of the various offices around Doolin village or on the way to the pier. Do not be misled by signage. Go to the pier where you will get the best value or better still book online.

Most services start around 9.30am. O’Brien Line offer a ferry service to Inisheer (Inis Oírr), Inishmore (Inis Mór) and Inishmaan (Inis Meáin) and the “Cliffs of Moher”. O’Brien line now also operate a super fast 12 passenger RIB (10 minutes to to the Islands)

Doolin2Aran Ferries owned by the Garrihy family operate two boats called “Jack B” (This boat has broken down in the past) and “Doolin Discovery” to the Aran Islands. They also offer trips to nearby Cliffs of Moher.
Doolin Ferries previously operated by Kevin O’Brien is now also owned by the Garrihy Family and operate the “Happy Hooker” and the “Rose of Aran” ferries.
**All ferries are licensed by the Marine Section of the Irish Department of Transport. Sailings from Doolin can be influenced by tidal issues.
Ferries From Rossaveal, Co.Galway
Most Aran Island Ferries operate from Rossaveal across Galway Bay. Inis Mor is the busiest ferry destination by far. Advance booking is not usually necessary but is advisable in July and August. Ferries begin departures daily from the Aran Islands at 8.15 am and there are regular departures on large comfortable ferries. Summer Departures to Inishmore are at 10.30am, Ipm and 6.30pm.
